Cadiz Collaboration and Colonial Mills have partnered to create an exciting new line of rugs for 2021. Colonial Mills has been crafting beautiful braided rugs in Rhode Island for over 40 years, but the history of braided rugs dates back to the days of early American settlers on the east coast in the 1500s to 1600s. Directly influenced by Native American weaving techniques, settlers first used available scraps of cloth from all possible sources to braid rugs to help warm the floors of their homes. Throughout the years, these industrious women passed down their treasured rugs and braiding techniques through the generations, creating the first true examples of American rug-making.
